More than what's under the 'About Me' tab

I recently started following Miss Jessica Ruud. She's seriously great. You guys should check her out.

She had a post today which gave some more information about her and I thought... BRILLIANT. I'm going to steal it :)

So...if you'd like to learn more about me, read on my friends! If not...skip to the bottom and tell me more about you! It can be anything. And I mean anything.

What's your name?
Well, my given name is Kelley Lynn Gerschke. I've decided that for writing purposes I will be Kelley Lynn (fits on a cover better ;)). I'm known as 'Ger', 'Gerschke', and 'Kger' by my friends. Oh and they also call me Kelley.

Where do you live?
I live in a suburb of Milwaukee, WI. Been in this area my whole life.

Tell us something unique about yourself.
Hmmm...like Miss Jessica who created these questions, I too am slightly ambidextrous. I bat, sweep and vacuum with my left. Everything else with my right. I would have liked to golf on the left side but my dad said he wasn't going to buy me a set of left handed clubs...

What is a hobby of yours? What do you like to do for fun?
Wow. I have a lot of hobbies. I like doing anything athletic. I play on three soccer teams and just completed my sixth half marathon (post coming soon). I also enjoy singing and have competed and participated in bands in the Milwaukee area. Can't forget reading and writing!

Are you a writer? If so, what do you write? If not, what do you read? (Or are you like the rest of my family and swear off the written word :))
I am a writer. So far two of my three manuscripts are Young Adult, the other is a Thriller/Mystery. I love to read anything.

Do you have a critique partner? Group?
Why, yes I do! My main critique partner is Theresa Paolo. You can find her blog here. She is awesome. Really awesome. Did I mention that she's awesome? Anyways... I have also worked with five other ladies on partial critiques. They were wonderfully helpful as well. I'm always looking for more though and love to return the favor so feel free to hit me up!

Have you met any famous authors? If so, who?
This one is a no for me :(. But I'd love to hear who you have met!

Have you ever participated in a writing workshop?
Yes! Very recently and I love it! You can read about it here.

What did you major in?
I have a BS in Chemical Engineering. (It's actually called Biological Systems Engineering with a Food and Bioprocess Emphasis, but the other is much easier to say.)

If you're a writer, do you let your family/friends read what you write and critique first?
No. Some of my friends read, but not crazy lots. Very few of my family reads. Very, very few. The first person to see my finished product is my critique partner Theresa. Did I mention she's awesome? :)

If you're a writer, what resources do you use?
I love the website, Ladies Who Critique. I found Theresa there, as well as a number of other lovely ladies. I also follow agents, publishers, editors and author's blogs.

What are your goals for the future? (this question does not have to be writing related)
Goals for writing: keep getting better, keep practicing, keep learning, keep writing. That's what I can control. Hopefully, if I try really hard with all that I will be published someday.

Goals for life: Stay happy.

Now it's your turn! Tell us something about yourself. Just a little something...or a lot...or somewhere in the middle.

  1. thx for sharing... very infomative.

I write to live, its apart of me… I never let it control me though—all that might change once I get published—but until then I write when I feel compelled to.

  3. That's a great point Jeff. We have to make sure that we get to write what we want, what we feel compelled to write.

    Thanks Dakota!
