Hello from Chicago!
Okay, I am very curious. To all you blog readers out there...
Why do you do it?
Why do you follow blogs? Spend countless hours reading and commenting on top of all the other responsibilities you have.
What does this crazy online community give to you?
And to make things super difficult, you can only use one word. And after that one word you can elaborate if you feel so inclined :)
So in fairness, I'll go first. My one word to describe why I partake in this amazing online community is: SUPPORT. The support from the online community is just awesome. I can't believe how selfless all of you are!
Can't wait to see what you all say!
SMILES :)
ReplyDeleteOptimismus!
ReplyDeleterelationships!
ReplyDeleteResources.
ReplyDelete(I am amazed by all the generous writer-author-bloggers who share their knowledge and experience freely!) :)
Friendships
ReplyDelete(I love building new friendships with like minded people all over the country.)
Together.
ReplyDeleteSometimes writing can be lonely. It's nice to know there are so many out there just like me!
Did you know what I was blogging about today? My post answers your questions perfectly!
ReplyDeleteConnection.
ReplyDeleteFun post! Yay, for brevity :)
Support was the first word that popped into my head too :) But that was the added benefit I didn't know existed before blogging. Networking and learning were the reasons I started :)
ReplyDeleteI second Angie: Connection.
ReplyDeleteBut I also like your word Support.
Same as you: Support.
ReplyDeleteNurture
ReplyDeleteBetween the authors, agents, and aspiring authors giving all of their advice, plus the countless contest where you get to compare others work and see what agents liked and didn't like- this is a world of information. I get to learn, grow and have support. It's the mother for the writer in me and my cp's are the bff's :)
Can I have two words? I was never very good at playing by the rules:
ReplyDeleteFANTABULOUS FRIENDSHIPS & SUPPORT ( okay, that was three! ) lol
Support's good! I'd have to say friends. Even though writing is a solitary pursuit, friends are so important. Writing can be emotionally draining and having friends who understand is what encourages me to keep going.
ReplyDeleteMeetingnewpeople.
ReplyDeleteSupport is exactly where my mind was going.
ReplyDeleteFriends. I never had so many friends before I started blogging. Now I have a whole host of new friends who support and help me along the way. It's hard to believe that once I didn't know blogs existed. Now I can't imagine leaving all my friends in the blogosphere.
ReplyDeleteMOTIVATION!
ReplyDeleteOkay - I love support, connection, friends etc. LOVE them all. I just had to be different and pick one of the other reasons I blog. Fun game today!
KNOWLEDGE.
ReplyDeleteI learn everyday.
CONTESTS
ReplyDeleteIt sounds pretty cold compared to everyone else's answers. But, I came for the contests and I have gotten way more in return. I never thought I would be into blogging, but I have greatly appreciated not being an island. I love the support, even if it's just simple little comments on my blog entries. And I have learned way more on blogs than I think I ever could have by spending $$$ on books and conferences. So, I am a convert!
Connection
ReplyDeleteHi Kelley, first time visitor. Great to meet you! My one word is PASSION. This is my driving force, my motivator, that gete me up early so I can blog and visit other sites and meet new people.
ReplyDeleteI love making new friends. That's it. ;) And I've made some fantastic ones!
ReplyDeleteFunny you mention it, I was just thinking that. It's hard to describe, but I find it very fulfilling and I like making friends (even if none of us ever meet face to face) :)
ReplyDeleteGotta go with "support." Though I find it an awful lot of fun, too!
ReplyDeletePreserves my sanity simply knowing other people who are writers, and that we share the same neurosis.
ReplyDeleteIt also taught me how to query and how to become a better writer.
Completely invaluable.
Wow, this is a tough question. I stay connected for so many reasons! I'd have to use the words: 1. fun 2. community and 3. mental health. Yes, mental health. WIthout all of my blogger buddies, I'd have checked into the loony bin by now:)
ReplyDeletekeepingitreal...okay, so I made up my word! Support was my first choice, but you had dibs. :) My blog buddies keep me real, in the realm, totally present at the keyboard-everyday. I know when I show up, someone will be there, it never fails. :)
ReplyDeleteOne word to describe how what it would be like without our online community?
lonesome (aka, an extremely long, brutal journey)
Forgive the typo above. I have two minutes to walk out the door for work!!! "One word to describe how (leave out what) it would be like..."
ReplyDeleteOr, I could leave out the "how" and use what...okay, I'll quit. :)) Gotta run!
ReplyDeleteFellowship!
ReplyDeleteSupport <----You nailed it. Man, the whole process no matter where you're at in this business is hard. And this whole blogging thing connects us to other people that "get it." That, in and of itself is HUGE. Great topic, Kelley!
ReplyDeleteYou stole my word and elaboration :)
ReplyDeletecamaraderie
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love going through the ups and downs of this crazy journey with others who really get it! I love learning more from every one else out there. I just love all of you dang it:)
