Oh those High School Dances Blog Hop!

Last week Emily R. King wrote a post entitled, High School: Heaven or Hell? You can read it here if you're interested.

It received an incredible response, most sharing that they didn't particularly enjoy those high school years. I found this hard to believe because I loved high school.

Emily was kind enough to respond to my comment and we got into a long email chain about high school. Why she didn't care for it so much and why I did. Then she said, "I wish us bloggers could share prom or homecoming pictures. Can you imagine how fun that would be?"

Yes. Yes it would be fun. (Though...ironically, the high school dances were my least favorite part of high school. I guess I'm really backwards...:))

So the Oh Those High School Dances Blog Hop was born!

It's going to be super fun and yes, there will be prizes. Six prizes to be exact.

Here are the rules for participation:
1. Post pictures of your high school dances. (Make sure you tell us which one you are if they're group pictures.)
2. Share with us your funniest high school dance story.
3. That's it!

There are three categories to win prizes and Emily and I will both be picking a winner.

The three categories are:
1. Best Dressed
2. Funniest Dance Story
3. Cutest Couple

What can you win? A choice between a three chapter critique or whatever book you desire ($10 or less).

So dig through your photo albums and scan in your pictures. This is going to be a crazy fun blog hop!

  2. That is such a cool idea, but high school dances weren't big in the UK until AFTER I left school, so I can't participate. :( I will look forward to reading all the other entries though! :D

  3. This is a great idea, but I'm with Kyra. Sadly I won't be able to take part as school dances were after my time at school. I will still check out other people's entries though.

    1. Hi Kelley, quick question. I've been inspired to do a blog hop for the first time. Do I have to make my own blog hop button from scratch or is there some sort of warehouse online full of blog hops badges to choose from?

      Thanks in advance!

      Ms. Clueless :)

  9. I already commented on Emily's blog. I didn't go to prom or homecoming, but I was on the yearbook committee, and I've got some pretty awesome stories!

  10. This sounds fun. Lots of time to prepare too.

I don't know which of you chose the picture, but I told Emily too that I was excited because I have that Barbie. I LOVED Barbies as a little girl and have now passed my collection down to my five year old. So I'm pretty sure I have that dress in our Barbie collection.

    1. That was all Emily :) I must admit, I did very little to set up this bloghop. I wrote the excerpt! But the button and the linky thingy were all Emily :)

  14. Oh my goodness, this will show you what a great time I had in high school- I did not attend any dances! But I shall follow your hop, my friend, because it sounds like fun. :)

    1. I attended them. Though I will admit I didn't find them as exciting as most :) This ought to be interesting! :)

  15. Ohhh fun! Ugh, I hope I can find some pictures, I'll have to check first to see where the heck they are. I loved high school too! The dances weren't my favorite past of HS, either, but of course I had to attend for the full HS experience haha.

  20. I look forward to seeing this pictures. I only went to one high school dance. Senior Prom. And it was less than magical. I don't even think our high school had any other dances. Or if they did, they were poorly attended. We were all the "we're too cool" for dances types and preferred setting things on fire and streaking. ...Maybe that's why they cancelled all our dances.

    1. Oh my Sharon. You bad girl you :) Maybe you could tell us one of those stories??? :)

  21. We never had dances at my school. May have something to do with it being British and an all-boys school.

    1. Haha. Yeah. That could definitely have something to do with it. ;)

  23. That's a really cute idea! High school was neither heaven nor hell for me - I just sort of floated through and hoped to go unnoticed! I'd join, but all my pictures are in storage :D I looked rather pretty though, in my pale green dotted swiss with the wide waisband. My hair was long and dark then!

  25. Kelley, this sounds totally fun! I'm so excited!! I'm in California during this blog hop, though, and I don't know if I trust blogger to pull off a scheduled post. It has failed me so many times!! But maybe I'll sign up and TRY and if it fails, well, will you forgive me? The only other problem is, I went to a tiny school in Hong Kong with no prom or homecoming. I think I have a photo I can use from a banquet, but I'm not with a guy, I'm just with my girlfriends. Hmmm... I'll await your email before I sign up. :)

  26. I wish I could join, but uh, I haven't had many school dances. We don't really do that at my school.

  27. Darn. My photographs were destroyed in a flood at my parents house where all my stuff was being stored. The best I could do is put on my letterman jacket!

Can't wait to see all the fun photos, though.

  28. Alrighty! I'm in - although my stomach clenches at the thought of posting a picture from highschool on my blog!!

  29. Yea, I'm not going to lie, this sounds amazing. And...somewhat horrifying. I was one of those who didn't so much like high school...

I'm also hosting a blog hop over at my sight, an Open Mic night. (You read your work to a camera, post it on your blog.)

    Wha-who, blog hops!

  30. We never had high school dances. I used to be a wall flower so I wouldn't have been prom queen or anything. Great fest though.
