A Moment for Yourself

On Wednesday I finished this month's edition of Self Magazine. It was another goody and helped me through my workout. Per my usual, I found the last page to be thought provoking so, again, I've decided to share it with you.

We often rate our days by what we've accomplished, applauding ourselves for a workout logged, an errand completed, a task crossed off. But consider grading today on a new curve: Give yourself credit not for doing but simply being - for taking time to sit alone, listening, daydreaming, creating space to think. Only then can you connect with the most important person in the world: yourself.

Let's all try this, this weekend sometime. Try to take a few minutes just to be grateful for what you have and hopeful for what's to come.

Then jump back in to the rest of your crazy weekend!

I hope it's fabulous!

  1. Taking time to just sit and think. I'm gonna do it, even if it's just because Kelley said I could! :)

  5. A wonderful reminder to make a little time for self in the midst of all that goes on. Sometimes, it can be hard since we get caught up in "getting things done". But the occasional moment taken to gather our breath, gather our wits...that's also very important.

  6. Thanks for sharing this, Kelley Lynn. I am VERY guilty of judging myself by what items I tick off my list. It's a challenge for me to just be.

By the way, I LOVE the new look of your blog, AND now your page loads faster for me when I open it. Great pic of your too! Happy Friday! :D

  14. After being out of town for two weeks, missing my youngest kid's first day of kindergarten and then having all kinds of plane issues trying to get back home and subsequently missing my daughter's birthday....I need a mental VACATION!

  16. This post was very thought provoking. Yes in the hustle and bustle we can easily forget to care for ourselves.

  18. If daydreaming and contemplation is an accomplishment, I am one successful lady!

(and on another note, I tried to find your email to let you know, I have a tee for you...you are the winner of the Game On! give-away...send me an address to eseckman@ymail.com if you want it!)

  19. Time just to be is so important, and something I've been forgetting to give myself recently. So much to be done in life, on the internet, with writing, that I forget so often to take time out. But I have recently started keeping a 'me journal', where I just take the time to sit and think about me and the things that are affecting me, which I've found really enjoyable.

  20. Slowing down is as necessary to our well-beings as air. If you burn out on your everyday life, where do you go?

  21. I spent my weekend away from the computer enjoying the sunshine (and getting blisters from yard work). It was nice :) Beautiful new look here!
