Help a girl out! And The Next Best Thing

Hello everyone! Happy Thursday!

Today over at Falling for Fiction I'm helping Suzi with her query. For those of you who don't know, over at FFF we critique two writer's work every week. Whether it be a query or the first 250 words of their manuscript. I LOVE doing this and the more people we can get to comment the more beneficial for the participant. So please come on over and help me out.

I was tagged in the Next Best Thing by Nancy S. Thompson! Nancy Thompson is a pub sister of mine. Yay Sapphire Star Publishing! Her book is being released on October 18th. So happy for her!

In light of that, I will talk about the book that I will also be releasing through Sapphire Star Publishing.

So here we go!

What is the working title of your book?
Fraction of Stone

Where did the idea come from for the book?
I was on an airplane, struggling through my NaNoWriMo project when I realized I just wasn't into it. I was writing for the market, a boy POV YA Contemporary, and I just wasn't feeling it. So I thought, what do I want to write? The answer: a female girl who had no hope in the world. Who would rather die. And then it's discovered that if the world is to survive, she's going to have to save it.

What genre does your book fall under?
YA Fantasy

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I actually have no idea with this one. My CPs will tell you they would ask Flynn Rider to play Rydan Gale, the main male protagonist. He's not real though so...

What is the one-sentence short synopsis of your book?
The world is bleeding magic, a slow and painful death, the stone that can save it long ago fractured. If the pieces are collected and magic is fed to the stone once more, the world can be saved. But the two burdened with this quest aren't sure whether the world is even worth saving.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
It will be traditionally published by Sapphire Star Publishing and released on March 21st, 2013.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
Ten days. Course it took a lot longer to make it pretty. :)

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
It's told in alternating POV from the minds of Akara Nazereth and Rydan Gale. It's a 'journey' story and includes magic, but there really aren't that many 'fantastical' elements. Its not only the journey to retrieve the stones, but the two characters' journey to find someone to believe in.

And tag, you're it! (I'm picking some of my newer friends!)

  19. I'm so thrilled for you!! I wanted to stop by and let you know that I think you're an amazing writer. I can't recall every detail, but I remember reading your post about signing with SSP. You wrote an incredible amount in the past year, and not only did you stop there, but you went on to some kick-butt revising and submitting! Inspiring, Kelly. Really. Thanks. :)))

  20. Great information shared in your Tag. It's interesting where inspiration can come from. I especially like your remark regarding your feelings of trying to write to the market. It didn't suit you, didn't fit. But when you wrote what fit YOU, and worked at revisions and edits, you reached your goal. Way to go!

  24. I'm with Angela on the "what the crap, 10 days!" thing. Especially a fantasy with worldbuilding and such. Well, WOWOWOWOW is all I can say, and good for you! I'm probably the world's slowest writer, so I'm super impressed.
